Pelpro Pellet Stove Use & Troubleshooting Guide

    Apr 12,2022 | YAOAWE

Pelpro pellet stoves are synonymous with warmth in long and cold winter nights. But there are also some failures that affect the use of the pellet stove, such as won't light, fire starts but goes out, pelpro igniter does not turn off, etc.
Below we explain in the article the use of pellet stoves, and each of the main problems that can with pellet stoves and their solutions.

    Using Pelpro Pellet Stove

    1. Confirm fire pot is properly positioned
    2. Confirm three baffles inside firebox are secure, placing the side baffles before the center
    3. Add some pellets to hopper and fully close lid
    4. Ensure dial control is set in off position
    5.  Plug in your Stove
    6. Wait 1 minute - LED light will start flashing green once per second
    7. Prime your Stove:
      (1) Quickly turn the dial control from OFF to HI
      (2) Back to OFF
      (3) Then back to HI
The feed motor will run continuously for two minutes and the LED light will be solid green. Once primed, pellets will drop into the fire pot and the LED light will blink green as ignition starts. This process can take up to 20 minutes.

What Do the Blinking Lights Mean?

    • Green & Amber - Normal Operation
    • Green, Steady On - Feed system is priming
    • Green, 1 Blink - Stove is off and ready
    • Green, Continuous Blinking - Stove is in the start up/ignition sequence
    • Green, Varies Blinks - Varies depending on burn rate
    • Amber, Steady On - Stove is set and running at either the minimum or maximum power levels
    • Amber, Continuous Blinking - Stove is in the shutdown sequence. *Early models may have a green continuous blinking light during shutdown sequence.

Why is the Red Light flashing on the dial control?

    • Red, 1 Blink - Empty Hopper Alarm. Most likely the appliance ran out of fuel or the flames are adjusted too low.
    • Red, 2 Blinks - Exhaust Probe Failure. A bad connection on the probe or a broken wire.
    • Red, 3 Blinks - Ambient Probe Failure. A bad connection on the probe or a broken wire.
    • Red, 4 Blinks - Missed ignition. Appliance failed to light the fuel or read a rise in temperature.
    • Red, 8 Blinks - Exhaust temperature over heat alarm. Appliance got too hot. Check the heat exchanger and exhaust system for obstructions.

Here we listed the five common problems with Pelpro furnaces and the solutions to each.

1、Pelpro pellet stove won’t light, for several possible reasons:

    • Pellets: Out of fuel/Too Few Pellets/Poor Quality Pellets/Damp Pellets
    • Vacuum switch not closing, no vacuum.
    • Hopper lid open or defective hopper switch.
    • Not Enough Air Flow: Too Many Pellets / Burn Pot Needs to Be Cleaned
    • Igniter not plugged in/Igniter not centered/Igniter defective
    • Firepot Plugged/Firepot dirty/Firepot in backwards

    Solutions:

    • Check hopper. Fill with fuel.
    • Check exhaust blower is plugged in and operating.
    • Check vacuum switch is plugged in, vacuum hose is in good condition clear and connected at both ends. Make sure venting system is clean and front door is closed.
    • Check vacuum switch fi tting on side of feed tube for blockage, and close Hopper Lid.
    • Confirm the feed assembly and motor are clean and clear of debris and reconnect feed motor
    • Center the igniter and seated in chamber completely.  Check Igniter to see if it is glowing(glows orange).
    • Clean Firepot  and then set it in the correct position.

2、Pelpro pellet stove fire starts but goes out, for several possible reasons:

    • Firepot/Exhaust path is dirty
    • Exhaust path and/or venting is plugged
    • Exhaust probe is not attached to outlet/not plugged in to the board/defective (error code may result)

    Solutions:

    • Clean fi repot. Check fl ue vent for obstruction
    • Inspect and clean exhaust path and venting, clean fi rebox including behind the baffl es
    • Inspect and clean the exhaust outlet especially the right side wall.
    • Remove the right side panel and inspect to see if the exhaust probe is attached and tight against the exhaust outlet
    • Confirm exhaust probe is connected

3、Pelpro pellet stove Igniter does not turn off, there may be gniter short circuit. The fuse will be blown and upon replacement of the fuse, the igniter will remain on when unit has power.

    1. Turn the dial control to the off position. Unplug the power to the unit.
    2. Remove the right side panel & unplug the wire leads to the igniter.
    3. Remove the screw in the top of the igniter chamber. Pinch the ends of the bracket together and pull the igniter straight out of the igniter chamber.
    4. If there is difficulty in removing the igniter from the chamber, the chamber can be removed from the rear of the firebox by removing the 1/4-20 bolt using 3/8” socket.
    5. Re-install the new igniter into the chamber using the bracket. Reattach wires to terminals.
    6. Inspect the igniter from the front of the unit by removing the firepot and looking into the end of the chamber. MAKE SURE THE IGNITER IS CENTERED IN THE CHAMBER

4、Pelpro pellet stove slow or smoky start-up and/or lazy fl ame, for several possible reasons:

    • Dirty exhaust and/or venting system.
    • Not enough combustion air
    • Misaligned igniter
    • Wet fuel / poor quality fuel

    Solutions:

    • Check for ash build up in unit, including behind rear panels, fi rebox, exhaust blower and venting.
    • Center the igniter in the chamber
    • Replace fuel, using high quality pellets in line.

5、Pelpro pellet stove convection blower fails to start, for several possible reasons:

    • Convection Blower are Jammed or Not plugged in
    • Exhaust probe not sensing correct temperature
    • Control box is defective

    Solutions:

    • Inspect, clean, and un-jam the blower.
    • Plug the blower in,If the problem is not solved, you have to replace the complete blowers.
    • Clean the exhaust outlet especially the right side.
    • If there is any problems with the control box replace it.
